Distribution of Plant Resources in Mt. Cheolmasan (Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province)

Abstract

We were conducted 7 field surveys from March 2024 to October 2024 to investigate the plant resources of Mt. Cheolmasan (Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province). As a result, a total of 502 taxa were identified, comprising 105 families, 311 genera, 449 species, 12 subspecies, 35 varieties, 4 forms, and 2 hybrids. Among them, floristic target species amounted to 61 taxa, and 11 taxa were endemic plants. According to the red list of National Institute of Biological Resources, 1 taxon was classified as endangered and 4 taxa as least concern. In addition, 415 taxa were identified as least concern species in the red list of Korea National Arboretum. The target plants adaptable to climate change were 11 taxa which 2 taxa were southern lineage species and 9 taxa were northern lineage species. A total of 47 taxa were identified as naturalized and ecosystem disturbance plants. In terms of usage plants, 403 taxa were used for medicinal purposes, 341 taxa for food, 280 taxa for ornamental purposes, 217 taxa for forage and compost, 216 taxa for industrial purposes, 203 for ecological restoration, and 20 taxa for fragrant purposes, while 20 taxa had no confirmed use. Compared to previous studies, 255 taxa were rediscovered, and 247 taxa were newly recorded in Mt. Cheolmasan.
