The Floristic Inventory and Distribution Characteristics of Vascular Plants in the Forest Restoration Post-monitoring Site

Abstract

This study carried out a survey targeting 150 post-monitoring sites for forest ecological restoration in order to use them as basic data to maintain and improve forest biodiversity and the effectiveness of native plants for forest restoration. The survey was conducted once or twice per season from April 2020 to October 2023. The vascular flora of 150 post-monitoring sites for forest ecological restoration in Korea was identified as 1,317 taxa in 139 families, 599 genera, 1,171 species, 27 subsp., 92 var., 11 f., 11 hybrids, and 5 cultivar. The total survey area of 150 locations is about 5.7 ㎢, which is only 0.009% of Korea’s total forest area of 62,860 ㎢, but 27.9% of the 4,724 taxa of vascular plants in the Korean Peninsula were found to have appeared. Remarkable plants include, Drosera peltata Thunb. var. nipponica (Masam.) Ohwi, 1 taxon for endangered wild species, 47 taxa for rare plants and red list plants, 55 taxa for plants endemic to the Korean Peninsula, and a total of 324 taxa for floristic target plants. 123 taxa of exotic plants were identified, and the average naturalization rate and urbanization index of the forest restoration area was calculated to be 9.3% and 29.3%. In the forest restoration post-monitoring site, 89 taxa of native plants for forest restoration were identified.
